This painting, Frenzy (1894), marks a turning point in Polish modernism. It is not merely a depiction of love’s collapse, but of the simultaneous fall of body and spirit. The entire canvas seems to burn within darkness—the woman’s flaming hair entwined with the galloping horse, as if desire itself were tearing reason apart.
Desire surges like waves; reason has nowhere to flee.
